Marcus Cornish
Examples
There have been an number of
proposals by various people to make use of the land along the river.
See Southwark Council for details of these proposals, including a
pontoon various barge use orders. In order to protect and to safeguard
the land adjacent to the river, there is a possible plan to put a
statue dedicated to the working people of London Docks. This land is
jointly owned by the freeholders of Providence Tower and Providence
Square and extends from the edge of Providence Tower to the wall of
Creed-Mills and is bounded by Bermondsey Wall West.
This idea is in its early stages
but will be subject to security and landscaping considerations and to
funding being available. It is intended that funding such as Lottery,
Local Government and donations will be the source of funds for this.
We have been in discussions with
Marcus Cornish who was the sculpture in residence at the Museum of
London.
Since graduating from the
Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and the Royal College of Art,
Marcus Cornish has worked as a Tour Artist in Kosovo with The Queen’s
Royal Hussars. He has also produced work for HRH The Prince of Wales,
while other examples of his work can be seen around the capital,
including the Victoria Cross and George Cross Memorial at Whitehall.
